So I'm lucky enough to now be in NYC for three weeks, as a show of mine is playing here.

Any tips on the best place to pick up some film at reasonable prices? Forgot to pack any!

And is B and H the best camera store for a browse?

I remember the ICP being an amazing museum/gallery from a former trip, but any other recommendations of galleries/exhbitions etc would be gratefully received.

And I hope to get some time to hit the streets with my cameras!

P.s. And anyone walking along 59th Street might see a show poster shot (by muggins here) with an M9 and 50 Hex...

Sounds great!

It's a poster for my play City Stories at 59East59 Theater. Which I think is 59 and Madison but I keep getting confused.

I'm definitely going to check those stores out, thank you!

Cool, Great to hear James !

will look for your poster thus weekend when I'm in midtown
near what avenue ?

as for Camera Stores in NYC
i prefer Adorama / smaller, quieter / 18th street between 5 & 6th Ave
or
the Leica Stire in Soho / West Broadway

i'm sure one of the weekends You are here
Cal or John
can set up a RFF meet ip at the Pub and You can meet lots of your online acquaitences

Congrats James.

ICP has moved the museum down to the Bowery and it's opening soon, not sure when but I'm sure Google knows.

B&H really seems more like an electronics store than a camera store now. Not as fun to browse although the used counter is still good for that. Film has been shunted to a little corner in the back. I'd suggest just ordering whatever film you need to where ever you are staying, they delivery really quickly within NY, usually next day or so.

Take a walk on the Highline and check out the new Whitney if you haven't. It's a fantastic space. Not sure what's there right now. Also the Degas at MOMA is really good. It's mostly his printmaking and it really reminds me of black and white photography, a nice new perspective.

Strolling the galleries around 22-25th streets on the far west side between 9th and 10th usually turns up something good.

Have fun. Just getting warm.

Agreed on both counts, especially Adorama! But you gotta check out the insanity that is B&H at least once.

Delighted ICP is reopening soon. I'll be in the city for a month at summer's end and look forward to visiting it. And I hope joining an RFF meetup.

Is there any information online about your play, please? I have a musician/playwright friend in NYC who might be interested in seeing it. I'd like to let her know. It sounds great, congratulations.
Cheers
Brett

Not sure if it's still as fun as it was in the '80's but I'd make sure you do International Center for Photography (upper west if I remember right) (aka ICP) and Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) (upper midtown, 53rd west of 6th-ish). ICP a half day at most, MOMA is a day or more.

Haven't been back with time to do anything but run by and say hi here or there for years.

Have fun and please share pictures of your visit.

I went to NYC for the first time two weekends to go and only had time to go to one camera store and went to B&H and it was the day they just opened back up after a week closed. Pure hectic inside. Wish I went somewhere else. I waited in a line at the used film gear just to ask if they had some cameras in stock (they didn't). I'll check Adorama next visit. Also I second the High Line, lovely place for a walk.

Go to B&H, for the spectacle. Go to PhotoVillage, though, for a real NYC 'camera boutique.'
Go to Central Park on a weekend. Best place on earth. Start at The Bandshell near the E. 72nd Street entrance. Boat House. See the skaters' circle. Walk up to Strawberry Fields....
Museums — The Met, MoMA. The Guggenheim is kind of 'a thing,' architecturally, but the Met and MoMA are better for art (paintings).
Bookstore — The Strand, on Broadway at 12th Street. Go upstairs. Tons of photography books.

Absolutely: this is the show website, which has a click through to our perfomances in NYC....

Tell her to come day hello!

Thank you everyone for this! Great advice!

Just done first preview of show, so long days but all went well. Hopefully will be able to get out a bit soon...

NYC is a great City, lovely to be working here.

Perfect, thanks. I'll pass it on. London is one of her favourite cities, she's doing an off Broadway play later this year and I think she's performed at Songwriters Circle like your own songwriter, so she might want to come. ;)
Cheers,
Brett

I've just enjoyed watching your city stories trailer and hope you're coming back to the UK with some further dates, sadly heading over to NY to watch it probably isn't going to happen, as I hadn't come across it previously. It sounds like there are some wonderfully enchanting tales just from the snippets on the website.

Very best of luck with it James and enjoy the run in NY.
