Thanks for sharing your pics. Makes me want to go back, though I swore I wouldn't until/unless I can speak Turkish. Last time I was too frustrated not being able to communicate with people more.

Faris, very exciting to see your B&W posts of this most interesting city. Got back from there June 10 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Do keep posting. Loved your shots of the Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque).

These are beautiful and amazing shots. I was in Diyarbakir for about a year in 1972-3, but passed through Istanbul, Izmir and Balikesir. These photos make me yearn to go back.

Much has changed since you last visited. More dynamic. More vibrant.
This June I developed a severe back ache during our trip. Could not go
towards the east and swing back. The original 35 days, had to be curtailed.
But It still was a lovely trip with the grand kids.

Where to stay in Istanbul? I like to stay in Asia. The wife prefers Europe.

My best moments, however, are those spent amongst the lovely Turkish people. Amongst those that live and work in Istanbul.

0200 hrs. The tourists are mostly in their hotels. I went out with my cam.
Sirkeci tram line was being repaired. I joined in. We had tea. Sign language,
a few words of Turkish, Arabic and English..

Oh, I know it. It's no problem getting around in English. It's just that I wanted to get beyond the english-speaking sphere and really learn more about people not associated with the tourist industry...in their own language. My last trip was in 2010.
 
The Asian side...the hotel we were staying in had a wedding reception.
My wife pulled me along to join. I went but stayed a little further back..
