Thumb Up cause problems on your M8 or M9?

Who uses a flash on an M 🙄

Oh here we go, home grown 'rules' about photography 🙄 No really, they only exist in RFF, go outside and the rest of the world is much more open minded 😉

I've been using the Thumbs Up for a few months. Like the enhanced stability--and notice no signs of wear on the camera.

Use the thumbs up and do enjoy the enhanced grip it provides, for me anyway. The thumbs up that I use comes with a rubber pad between the metal and the camera. I have only had it off the camera once and did not notice any wear or rubbing. I personally think it is a nice piece of engineering that works quite well . . . . . and I do not own a flash . . . . .

Hmmm that would be a design flaw from Leica. Since the hotshoe is designed to hold a flash.

I'm sure the laws of Physics are very different for Leica owners and nonowners.

That would obviously be Leica's fault. I can't see how, but I'm sure somebody will think of a way how that could be.

I will never buy the thumb up, I'm always struggle between the finder and the fash no I need another thin to worry about. I use the leica grip thou.

Is there people using the grip and the thumb up simultaneously?

Actually, if you check with Sherry, Don or Youxin, you will learn that soft releases can bend the release shaft - and do so frequently. 🙂 Must be Leica's fault, too.

Mine has been used daily for about four months now -brassing nicely- and it is stuck on as well as it was the first day.

I got a Thumbup used from KEH to try...didn't really like it so much. Twice when I bent forward and then stood up it came back and thwacked me in the ribs, once it snagged on my sleeve as I reached for something and it yanked the strap very hard against my neck, and once it snagged on my camera bag while I was taking it out and almost pulled the M8 out of my hand. Great little gizmo for the non-klutzy I suppose, but was definitely an accident waiting to happen for me 🙁

exactly what i'm thinking, ruslan. i can use my pocketwizards. i will have less of a problem with parallax using external VFs too.

I have one and do like it. But I find I prefer to not have it on the camera. I like the feel of holding the camera without it. But I often use a wrist strap and don't have to worry about gripping.

Wouldn't be without it. The Thumbs up has produced no damage on my M8 after more than three years, none on the M9. On the M8, with its slippery covering, it's probably stopped me from dropping it while picking it up. Model 1 is positioned exactly where my thumb would fall with a film Leica wind lever in the "ready" position. I don't support the camera with it, rather it secures my hand position. No damage to the bodies. Tim Isaac has designed a wonderful piece of gear. Yes, it probably bruised my chest a couple of times, but then so did Nikon F's years ago, and the wind lever on my M4.

Thanks for the tip on the "Thumbie"; just bought one. Simple sleek design, though not so easily moved from one M8/M9 to another. 😉
