Yes.
Viewed from the back of the camera it unscrews in an anti clockwise direction. You may have to grip it with something like rubber sheeting to get it undone. If I remember mine was quite tight and unscrewed starting with a "click" as the threads freed.
I think both surfaces are anodised which can bind. I put a just a trace of vaseline on the threads of the magnifier to prevent that from happening.

I found it be a great abuse to the camera, definitely didn't dare it without your encouraging...
