Thursday's Street Thread' is just a bunch of us showing some of their street photography and talking about it.

This thread is not about whether you like street photography as a genre, or whether it even exists as a genre. It is all about photographic images and their merits or faults within the genre. Constructive criticism is the key word. Please, comment on the images, and post your street photos for the constructive comments of others.

There's no membership requirement, no criteria, no voting, and no limit to the number of photos posted. The only 'rule' is that Thursday's Street Thread is about commenting on other people's pictures at least as much as it is about showing your own.

If you can, post images as thumbnails or attachments rather than as full-scale images, to keep the thread readable and fast-loading and to keep the server load low.

Anybody can start the thread on a Thursday morning.

Anybody can join in.

Good framed and worked idea. The statue and sitting man are 2 points to lead the eye back and forth.

Todd... the photo made me chuckle a bit! Thought it was a live person playing show & tell - plus there's that phallic trash bin :)

This is from recent Easter parade in Toronto and I like how joyful it feels. sorry for the quality.

Thanks, funny...I kept wishing the trash bin wasn't there, but now ;)
The statue was very realistic looking so I see your point.

sooo,
what focal length does everyone prefer when shooting street? Most of the time I shoot with a 35, but as of late (last 3-4 months) I've gravitated to a 28mm, considering a 24 or 25mm. You have got to get pretty close with a 28mm focal length, but it's worth the effort IMHO.

The one with the birds is fantastic, truly a great image.

...and the one with the two umbrellas and garbage truck, the one with the..., hell they're all good! Nice work. Is New York the most street worthy place to shoot next to Paris or what?

I haven't taken anything new this week - work is acting as a time thief at the moment - but here's a couple from earlier this year, and the first roll through my pre-CLA'd IID. The viewfinder was like looking through a teabag, the shutter speeds were suspect and the frame counter lied like a cheap Swiss watch, but I loved it from the start, and one full service later it is my favourite carry-everywhere camera.

Both shots on Kodak 400CN with a 5cm Elmar. The tube shot was from the hip, wide-open at 1/20th(ish).

Steenkamp- I really like the first one and the birds. Some of the other umbrella ones are good but seeing so many together and they detract from one another. The first one to me makes a very strong statement.

Todd- I generally use a 35. I only take the 28 out in situations where I know in advance that I will need the wider angle. I've never been able to make it my default lens despite the inspiration of William Klein and others. The 35 feels really comfortable to me and as it's a f2 whereas my 28 is an f3.5, it feels like more of an all around lens. Less to think about. If I know what's on the camera and what it can do, technical questions disappear and I can just react.

Unfortunately the film got stuck on the spiral and the dog shot got those "artifacts".
All shot with Bessa R and Jupiter-8 except dog one with Super Heliar.
