Hello to all.....

Here are some photos that I took with my Hasselblad.....I used to use the camera for a "street" camera and I carried the thing everywhere with me for awhile.....

Florence, Italy

Kerala, India.....oddly enough, this picture was printed "reverse/wrong side of the negative"...I'll make a new "correct" print sometime in the future....

I love the hassy for street work almost as much as my Rolleiflex:

I like the shallow depth of field in this one. It works well. Nice contrast to the usual everything in focus feel of most street stuff. Much more authorial control for the photographer.

Generally though, I just don't love the square format for street. It feels too formal and vertical to me. I used a Rolleicord V and then a Mamiya 6 for awhile but ended up selling the Mamiya for my Leica as I struggled too much with the square. I like the looser more improvisational feel of the rectangle. I really liked the 60mm lens on my Holga for street, felt about perfect focal length for medium format, but again the square. Ah well. I do miss the big negs.

Michael, That shot from Kerala is breathtaking. Was it taken on a train? Hard to be unobtrusive with a 'blad. What do you do, wave it about like a lunatic until everyone looks the other way?😀

I agree, the square format is a personal thing...some can shoot it and some have a harder time. I really like it!

That piece of checkered cloth in the right of the frame is a little distracting but I guess if you cropped it the lady to the right would have her face bumping the edge of the frame. I can't help wanting to see more horizontal though. Ever work in 6 x 7 or 6 x 9?

Great shots, who says medium format is too slow for street? They are so sharp they are almost hyper real. The skater kid looks almost fake he's so sharp against the background. The aesthetic of medium format leads me to think of advertising which can be something fun to play with.

I really like this format so much better. I feel like everything in the frame can breathe whereas the 6 x 6 feels constricted.
