Thursday's Street Thread' is just a bunch of us showing some of their street photography and talking about it.

This thread is not about whether you like street photography as a genre, or whether it even exists as a genre. It is all about photographic images and their merits or faults within the genre. Constructive criticism is the key word. Please, comment on the images, and post your street photos for the constructive comments of others.

There's no membership requirement, no criteria, no voting, and no limit to the number of photos posted. The only 'rule' is that Thursday's Street Thread is about commenting on other people's pictures at least as much as it is about showing your own.

If you can, post images as thumbnails or attachments rather than as full-scale images, to keep the thread readable and fast-loading and to keep the server load low.

Anybody can start the thread on a Thursday morning.

Anybody can join in.

Here's my contribution for this week.

Comments are very welcome! :)

Florian,
I like your compositions, the exposure seems really strange though. Sort of blown out and overly contrasty without a lot of mid tones. Are those digital or C-41 black and whites?

Nice work.

Here's mine:

Florian I agree with the others, your tones are a bit too contrasty, the bright tones are too white in my opinion. But I like the last one too, the repetition is nice :)

Nightfly a pity that the man in front is in the shadow, but I like the light.

Some colorstuff from last year:

Thank you all for the comments. They are scans from XP2 super prints.
It seems, however, that I did a bit too much tone-correction in photoshop with the ones that look too bright.(Actually a method I don't like that much)
So, good you tell me. ;) I allways try to improve. :)

Bas.K, I like the second one the most.
Pitxu, are those firefighters?

Bas.K, your last one is a real keeper!
Pitxu, nice catch of the real life (one working, one holding, one watching)
Florian1234, I like the chopped ladies most.

Here are three older ones which I recently scanned for the first time.

thanks guys, those photos were from my first roll of film shot with my rangefinder ever.
It's really such a pleasure to use :)

Petronius I really like the first one, good connection between the man and the 2 ads, works really well!

And I like all the squares and straight lines surrounding the people into a nice composition in the 3rd photo.

Jon, much appreciated. Thanks for liking them. :)

lZr, is it the taste of Heineken, or the design of their promos?:D
I know, beer's like art in a way - its all about the taste one likes. For me there's, of course, one beer out there which is very great.
*hint: my hometown is Bremen*
But I also like some others very much. ;)

Oy Florian, I can't forget the Munich beer fest (October, but open September, as I remember). It is highest level beer happening and in big quantities. But I need also the wurst :D. With Heineken I can shot and drink ;)

Petronius, that guy with the silhouettes is great!

OK, hope this doesn't cause any controversy, but these were taken with a Sigma DP1. Don't tell Kevin.

Agree with many comments above... Florian, I like best your chopped manikins, raises initial confusion about reality, but then that's what I like about manikins in general. Bas K. I like both your first and third, especially the third because of the shared motion blur linking the one predator to the other(one might imagine?). And Petronius, your first one is a gem; you caught the gentleman just right in relation to the signs on either side. Mablesound, these are hip-shots as you move through the scene?

Below shot in Valletta last month...

Yes...I took about 75 that day and got maybe 12 good ones. I think is what digital is good for...

I like Florian's manikins, too, but I wish the DOF were shallower. It's hard to see what you're looking at for a second, as you sort out the areas of dark and light.

Doug, that dude on a stool is a good one!
