Here's an interesting article in the NYT on a collaborative photographic project that used Polaroid's giant 20x24 camera. Unfortunately the project fizzled out before it could be finished due to lack of funding. I love the first two photos by Frank, and Heath has a small SX-70 Polaroid photo of Frank smoking a cigarette and looking away from the camera that is absolutely perfect in composition. It should be used in photography classes to illustrate how to effectively compose a square space. The rest of his small Polaroids are nice too, with their distinctive colour that has somehow managed to survive over time.

Jessica McDonald, the Ransom Center’s curator of photography, a specialist in Nathan Lyons and the buzzing photography scene in mid-20th-century Rochester that sprang up around Kodak and the George Eastman House, first discovered the archive through talks with Ms. Cohen and Mr. Johnson about the possibility of one day publishing the unfinished catalog and artist’s book maquettes.

Awesome! Looking forward to the catalog, and I’ll have to go to the Harry Ransom Center if I’m ever in Texas to make an appointment to see the archival collection.
 
I was fortunate to have had Dave Heath as one of my professors at Ryerson back in the early 1990s, and he actually gave me one of his Polaroid SLR 680’s (which I sold a few years ago). Somewhere in a box I have some of his Polaroids. Having him as a professor and as a friend was a transformative experience. Thanks for sharing this link.
