Yesterday, one of the three repairmans who still repair analog camera in Vietnam, has died. He has more than 50 years experience.
His grandfather and father were camera repairmans too. But the most sorrowful thing is his sons, repair almost only digital camera. Young people love repair digital cameras more than analog cameras. It's easier, faster, and get more money than repair a bulk of metal, which was born may be the same time with their grandfathers.
I know there are people who still repair analog camera in the world, but day by day, they will be gone, one by one.
Films wont die, but it will be a shame if we have only analog cameras for showing, and cant work.

That is a shame and very sad 🙁 .. and what has been looming in my head for a few weeks now..

Who will repair our cameras when everyone who repairs has perished? It's seen me going and buying "dead" cameras and bringing them back to life.

I hope there are those who arise to the challenge in the future.

In the Leica forum I have started a thread some time ago to create an inventory on what is needed for new people to start repairing mechanical cameras and one thing obviously is parts.

Kyonthinh, you could point out to the sons that the parts their father has stored, might be valuable and can be sold online, either part by part or in bulk. That way, at least the materials end up being used, possibly by new folks looking to get into the business!

I'm not home, and I dont think it's possible.
Well, you know, three generations repaired camera in that place, that chair, with that table full of parts and tools. For all of us photographers, it's like memories. I think his sons will keep it as is, to remember.

Sad to hear another craftsman has passed away. Inevitable, but sad.

Photography has changed, the old tools will eventually diminishe and pass away. New tools replace them. For better or worse, it does not matter. Because art and expression will always transcend medium and tools.
