The time has come, the time, I always though about, will never happen, to really think about selling my R-D1.

I am not designated, to do so. It is a mood, that changes from day to day now.
I don't use the R-D1 anymore.
For all RF things, I use the M8.2 the most as my daily camera and shoot much film also with a film M.

I found out lately about my affection to fast lenses and got a fast SLR lens, I use more now on a FM3a and on digital.

Every time, I see my R-D1, I once used on a daily basis in the storage, it hurts me.

There is another twist to it. I have collected so much stuff, I never be able to use or even transport at once. I am not residing in my home country, so the mobility factor is another concern, wanting to slim down the stuff a bit.

A often visited dealer has offered a fair price (regarding pricing from a dealer) to me, as he knows, how I treat my stuff (I bought this R-D1 from him).
I am seriously tempted, to let it go.

What would you do?
Take it back to the dealer?
Find a good home at a fellow rangefinder shooter for it?
Keep it for the seldom times, I put a 35 Summaron on it and do some relaxing snap shots with it without the pressure of turning out serious shots?

I am back and forward on this and need some handholding to decide …

I fail to see the dilemma...you own a M8 which you use as well as film Ms, so just sell off that which you are not using or which is surplus. You will still have plenty of fine gear once the rd1 is sold....so, for me with just two M film bodies, I don't "get" the depth of the decision. I see it as a no-brainer 🙂

Digital gear is like dust in the wind. If you aren't using it, sell it. Or stand in front of the R-D1, admire it, and light $1 bills with a match. Same thing. 🙂

To answer in order:
1. Sell what you're not using
2. No
3. Yes
4. I don't understand this statement/question. What do you mean relaxing snap shots without the pressure of serious shots? I think most RFF would see this as a serious camera for serious shots. Though I think most Leica users would use their M's for relaxing shots as well. 🙄

Seriously, sell now and don't look back. You seem to have other fine instruments to use with your 35 Summaron. I'm somewhat in a similar situation as I'm away from home, but my stash is at home and selling it remotely well... is a remote possibility at the moment. I wish I could get to them to sell as they're not being used and are depreciating faster than megapixels are growing. 🙁

It was really, really hard to sell my M8 that accompanied me without a single flaw through 12 months of war in Iraq. When it came down to it the M9 was my camera of choice but that didn't mean someone couldn't breath new life into the M8. I passed it onto someone here and I am glad I did. And one day someone here most likely will get my M9.

When all is said and done no one or thing can take away the images that you DID make with the R-D1. And that's all that matters.

Guys, thanks a lot for your opinions. Some posts indeed opened my eyes a bit on this one - after all it is just a digital camera, right?

I let it sit a few days, might be doing some product shots and decide by the looks of them.
I am a bit nostalgic by this one, as it is actually my first digital RF camera, which does produce great images even 6 years after introduction.

Contrary, I shed no tears, when I did the same thing to a good part of my DSLR gear, when I found, I used the Leicas more - strange.

Thanks for your input, I am a bit closer now…

Sell the R-D1. If you feel withdrawn later on, get the Fuji x100 when it comes out. That with a 35mm (35mm equiv) fov and the M8 with a shorter or longer lens (depending on the circumstances) would make a very nice two camera set-up, negating lens changing on a shoot. How does that sound?
