I have been using my G1 with 21 + 45 lenses with no issue. But I just got a black 90mm and boy does it take some time focusing to its closest point ( one meter ). Sounds like that little motor is working really hard to extend the lens barrel....is this normal ? New batteries make it better / faster ?

thanks

Dan

I used to know a guy who had a G1 with 45mm and 90mm - he found using lithium AA batteries helped focus speed tremendously. They have more "oomph" for peak current draw.

How do you use lithium AA batteries in the G1? The G1's battery compartment will not fit 2 AA's, It takes CR2 info lithiums that are smaller and fatter than AA's? Does he have a battery pack he puts them in?

There is, or better was, an external battery holder for four AAs available. I use it often with NiMhs.

I don't recall the details - this was several years ago. It came up in a conversation about amateur radio when I mentioned problems with a particular radio when using alkaline AAs. He turned me on to the lithium AAs which fixed my situation - voltage was dropping due to high current draw.

Ken the Contax G1 and G2 are powered by CR2 Lithium cells.

Hmmm. I wonder what camera he was referring to, then? I know he had a G1 at the time (I drooled over it more than once), but it may have been a different camera he was discussing.

Ignore me.
