Time to start saving up for... RX100 III

I must admit that the pop-up EVF is a brilliant concept! And it is a nicely designed camera. But you are still talking a compact 1" sensor with a built-in zoom lens. I prefer the larger sensor and interchangeable prime lenses of my Olympus E-PM2.

not the size of the sensor but how you use it. :)

I rarely use my RX100 these days and may sell soon and yet the new one is tempting. Weird.

I did sell an RX100 before the II came out. And sensor size wasn't a reason. The III certainly addresses every reason I sold the first version.

The size with the quality of image was the reason I picked up the v1. But the AF, especially in low light and the inability to snap another shot as the NR was processing were major drawbacks. Will see if the III improves in those areas. The EVF is a must, but i need to hold it and see how it works. I do like that it is not in the center.

I've been a sucker for the idea of a small pocket camera that can do everything, and have a drawer full to prove it. But I'm not going to get this one (despite admiring my Mk1 X100), for the simple reason that I don't end up using them. As they get more and more complicated with every feature possible the more I forget how to operate it on a casual basis. And being in a pocket there is every opportunity for buttons and dials to be touched accidentally that mean the camera is set to anything other than what I expected. If ever there comes a day where manufacturers gave the opportunity to switch things off on a permanent basis (at least on a hard to accidentally switch on again basis), and dials couldn't be casually turned from say aperture priority to 'program' mode I'll think again about tiny cameras.

I have to resurrect this old thread because I just got a wind of this camera while helping my wife to scout a good camera for sis-in-law for taking pictures of handcrafted clay-based flower ornaments (which is apparently the trendy thing to procure in weddings).

Pop-up EVF !!

Sony now got my respect. What a brave and forward-thinking division of Sony.

I've been throwing jabs at Olympus for not implementing this on their Pen series cameras. That was several years ago.

Is there any other camera that has this feature?

The problem that I've seen with the camera is that if you rest the EVF on your eye it pushes the EVF in... does anyone know how to lock the EVF in place? I couldn't figure it out in the store. It made the EVF useless for me.

Hmm, that would be pretty annoying wouldn't it?

Maybe if the EVF is big enough for us to peer into it (as opposed to rest our eyes), that would be useable.

It is big enough for that, but after many years of resting my eyes on the VF, it is hard for me to adjust. I'm a glasses wearer too so I usually have to rest my glasses on the VF in order to see the whole frame.
