Time traveling through photography

DO NOT GO TO THAT WEB PAGE - there is definitely something wrong with that page. I think it's a trap of some sort. It links to other pages at the rate of about 100 per second.

My first visit to the site was with Safari on a MacBook Pro running Mavericks OS. I have the "Disconnect" plugin installed in Safari (from http://disconnect.me) that shows how many tracking sites are pulling personal information from your browser when you visit a page. The count of sites pulling information went over 2,500 before I forced Safari to close. Before I closed Safari, the computer slowed to a crawl and Safari stopped responding.

The second visit was using Firefox on the same MacBook Pro, with AdBlockPlus, but without Disconnect.me. The page did not finish loading. It was constantly doing something and staying active.

Based on that, I'd say there is something wrong with the web page - either someone goofed something up, or it is malicious.

That's too bad, because the pictures show excellent skill on the part of the person who did them.

I have a vague feeling I've seen a very similar project but I can't for the life of me remember where or by whom. I think it was someone inserting themselves in photos of their parents or something like that (?)

Anyway, in a somewhat similar vein, there's Hebe Robinson's excellent 'Echoes': http://www.heberobinson.com/#s=0&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&p=1&a=0&at=0 . (Robinson photographed abandoned communities inserting older/historical photographs of these places in the newer ones, thus documenting transition and memory of place.)

.

As others, I experienced no issues while visiting the page with Firefox. Interesting idea and crisply executed too.

If I were that good at photo editing I could perhaps work with many of the photos (often quite good) my dad took of me in my kid years. Sometimes, especially when the photo depicts close relatives and friends long gone, an otherwise vaguely nostalgic viewing experience becomes a bit painful, but that's life as it is. And the power of photography too!
