ironically Joseph Charles (commonly called Jacquard) was weaving pictures digitally with punch-cards before all these processes were discovered, a resoloution of around 150x300dpi was possible, 1815'ish

sadly the camera needed an artist sat inside it to capture the image … never really caught on

For that matter, digital imaging can be attributed to Bain (1846), Caselli (1845) and Bidwell (1881). But the superiority of silver halide was clear...

My friend, Jerry Spagnoli, does daguerreotypes. He was the technical consultant on Chuck Close's recent series of daguerreotype portraits. And my sister-in-law does daguerreotypes also, along with quite large (20-30" or more on longest side) cyanotypes by contact printing with digital negatives. Both conduct workshops on daguerreotypes.

Speaking of autochromes, if you are ever in Paris, stop in at the Musee Albert Kahn, a banker who sent photographers around the world to collect images using the autochrome process.
