Hi,
Thanks for the answers on lube for the focusing threads of an Elmar-M 50 (over in the Optics forum).
I decided to try what I had in the garage, and found something excellent:
Phil Wood's Tenacious Oil. If you've never heard of Phil Wood, his lubes are legendary for bicycle parts. The lens now has a great smooth feel. The only problem is that somehow some grit got into the threads (I think they were there before I applied the lube) and I may have to disassemble and clean off the threads and reapply the lube.
My question is: should I start by simply removing the 5 screws on the very back of the mount? Am I crazy to attempt this? I know I'll have to keep track of the original orientation of the threads, but any other advice?
thanks.
