Hi everyone! I have a simple question. I am curious, what tips can you recommend for getting nice rice tones? A certain fim and developer? Or perhaps methodology in exposure? I find that all the images that appeal to me most have dark, rich tones and have realized that this is what I want to achieve in my works.

Thanks,

Nancy

I'd say that adequate exposure and appropriate development play the most important roles in achieving rich tones.

Hi! Just wanted to clarify, I see its been moved, np, but I was looking for anyone interested in discussing all aspects of achieving the final look I am interested in. So for achieving rich tones I know that film and developer is a part of this but was thinking that exposure techniques or something I had not thought of might also way in.

btw, Thanks for your thoughts FrankS!

There was (is) a school on exposure and tones, the Weston Master exp meter was done by one of its diciples. The zone system, it is a lot of reading but simple in practice.

The exposure sets a start point, the development and film control the next phase, I tend to use fast medium film and dilute developer for a long tme and water bath for an interval, I get blocked high lights just the same.

If you use slow film you may need to use one of the associated developers POTA or 2 bath.

Oodles of books on these topics.

The person who moved your past and lost people would regard the esp and dev as linked, they probably were not imposing a Procustean bed solution...
