bought my black brick (without hot shoe) a year ago,
it has an off-focus issue (i suspect i did not attach the lens right so the focusing of the first 2 rolls all fall behind the subject)

anyway i like the camera so i bought the 100mm F4.5 Sandmar...without the viewfinder mask...:bang:

any tips on composing?

or i wonder if one can make his own mask...
sounds possible if someone had that mask, scan it and cut a masking card...

Hi. I would go to ebay and take a look at the Argus accessory viewfinders that accomodate 100mm lenses. Argus sold two excellent models that I have. They also made clip-on masks that could work but these seem to be rather scarce.

i'm afraid a clip-on viewfinder (saw an archive pic somewhere) would cost more than the sum i paid for the camera AND the Sandmar...

the clip-on masks was suppose to be sold together with the Sandmar but somehow (i imagine) the owner lost it...and i thought i found a bargain:bang:

You could also put the camera on a tripod with a cable release holding the shutter open, put a GG or Scotch tape across the film gate, and make a VF mask to match what you see at the film plane. Just be sure to check it at multiple distances.

good idea! thanks.

Or if you have a 100mm lens (or zoom equivalent) for an slr - you can get a good idea of the angle of view and make a mask figuring it that way.

Although given the price of C3s, you may as well just locate one which has an accessory shoe (they are not that uncommon) - then you can use any finder made for 100mm angle. Or one of those "tele wide" finders that came with those cheap auxiliary lens sets (the wide angle and "tele" lenses that screwed onto the ends of fixed lens rangefinders). These sets usually sell for a tiny fraction of a zoom or turret finder.

but where's the fun part?...😀
(well actually my first thought was that someone here in RFF who have the mask could take a ruler out and get the measurement in no time--making one out of a coke can seems possible...)

I second that motion haha 😀 I unfortunately did the same thing recently, and would love if a member here would do that as well
