Am using Plus X. What is different with Tmax 100?
Not asking which is 'better'.
If anyone has samples which show the differences then that would be good.

Tmax is finer grained and more resolution. I prefer the tonality of Tmax to the little bit of Plus-x I have tried. Develop Tmax 100 in either D-76 1+1 or Rodinal 1+50.

These were shot on 120 film in 645, except the apple tree, which is 6x6.

T-Max is a tabular, or T-grain film that has higher resolution than Plus-X. There are some of us who feel that this advantage comes at a price, in that T-Max seems to lack the tonal richness of films like Plus-X or Tri-X. It looks flat to me. I always thought that while it can handle a wide dynamic range, it just looks, well, flat. I would try to pump up the contrast by extending development, but then I got blocked highlights. I gave up on the stuff. Ilford Delta 100, on the other hand, gives me the resolution and the tonality I want. So does Delta 400 (I guess now they call the improved versions 100 Delta and 400 Delta).

And T-Max isn't discontinued unlike Plus-X. RIP Plus-X.
I don't have the experience with it, but some knowledgeable folk on APUG can tell you how to modify your developer choice and techniques to get different curve shapes out of T-Max, which gets you closer to the tonality of some of the traditional films, when you need it.

Plus-X is discontinued? Evidence? I just bought a bunch of the stuff from B&H. Arista Premium 100 is discontinued.
I like TMax 100 and Plus-X, but for different purposes. TMax 100's fine grain works well for landscapes, and it has a long tonal range if you shoot it at iso 50. I love the richness of Plus-X's tones - gorgeous dark greys, esp. And it produces nice results at iso 320 and developed in Diafine, or at box speed or lower and developed in Rodinal.

Oh yes, Plus-X is discontinued- I saw it on the Kodak website. Not a rumor, 2nd hand, whatever- it's gone, due to low demand. No real replacement, they say, but urge TMax 100 as an alternative.

Thanks Steve. I took this a couple of evenings ago on Plus-X with the Hexar AF. I like the range. The scanner was an old multi-function Epson. Will be trying to do better on a V700 soon.

The grain and resolution of TMAX 400 are equivalent to Plus-X. TMAX 100 is considerably sharper than either and has still tighter grain.
Nevertheless, it's a damned shame to see Plus-X discontinued.

I always preferred FP4/FP4+ to Plus-X. I'm not sure why, other than I didn't do well with it, though others obviously did.
