Just noticed on Freestyle and B&H that Tmax 3200 is back in stock.

I remember every lots of stores ran out of stock and the discontinued word was thrown around even though it was still listed on Kodak's website. Perhaps they did not make enough for that production run?

me too. I'm not completely happy with D3200 in 35mm for a number of reasons (LOVE it in 120) and hope the Tmax is more to my liking in small format. I need higher contrast and smaller grain even if I lose a touch of speed. EI800 would work fine for me and in Xtol it might smooth out some. D3200 just dies in low contrast settings with insufficient highlight contrast IMO. Its much more at home in low light where there are highlight provided by virtue of clearly directional light.

I still havnt shot T-max 3200 with my Noctilux but have had plenty of experience shooting with my Nikon system. I always used T-max developer and have pushed it to 50,000 ASA. Im going to get a box and dedicate on body for fixing the shadows at night with my Noctilux. 😀

Nikon F2as with Nikkor 135 2.0 AIS on T-max 3200 pushed to 6400 ASA.

Neopan 1600 makes about 640 true speed in Xtol 1+1 or 1+2 and D3200 about 1000-1200. I have not used Tmax but hear its about 1/3 stop slower than D3200. Anything above these will be result in reduced shadow detail, which generally works fine at night because apart from street lamps contrast is often actually very low.

How would you guys'n gals rate this stuff when developing in Rodinal 1:100? I plan to shoot low light flashless with it and hope for not too much grain

Rodinal enhances grain, it does not reduce it. And I don't think it is a good match for T-Max 3200 - I've had excellent as well as terrible results with it and T-Max 3200, which I ascribe to the rapid ageing and decay the latter is notorious for. Not that Rodinal is unique there - Xtol and HC110 have been similarly inconsistent. In my experience, T-Max developer really is the best match for it - it is the only developer I consistently had good results with, even with film close to the expiration date.

I love the grainess of Tmax 3200 with Rodinal. 😀

But pushing those films would result in cleaner grain than pushing Tri-X I would think - besides the different grain on some...

I've found that that grain of Tri-X at pretty much any speed is smaller than the grain of TMZ pretty much at any speed. Not that I find the grain of TMZ to be objectionable. Your mileage may vary.

As to TMZ's true speed, the tech sheets say 1000 in some devs and 800 in others. I've not measured it exactly, but in my tests with XTOL, it has more shadow detail at 800 than TMY or TX had at 400, so I can buy the rating of 1000.
