An odd question, which I'm hoping someone can shed some light on:

I've been developing my own rolls of Neopan for some time now. The other evening, I developed two rolls of TMAX (100 and 400), and when I drained the developer and fix from the dev tank, I noticed both chemicals had taken on a mild orange-ish hue. Both rolls turned out perfect, but I'm wondering if anyone knows why the chemicals would have taken on such a colour cast?

I've never noticed this with any other rolls I've developed. It doesn't seem to be problematic - as I say, both rolls turned out fine. Just a curious event.

Ideas, anyone? 😕

Have a look at the base color of the film and you'll note a color. It is that dye that your chemicals have taken on (usually the developer) and it's harmless.

Can't say I've ever noticed it with T-Max, but it's not uncommon for films to tint the chemistry they're developed in. It tends to be cuased by anti-halation coatings being washed off the film base, and some film/dev combos tint more than others. As spyder2000 says, it's harmless and nothing at all to be worried about.

Orange is a new one. I've seen green, blue and purple, and when I pour Rodinal out of a tank developing APX 100, it's the color of a decent claret. As long as the negs look OK, it's not worth worrying about.
