I like APX100 in Rodinal, but I think I need to pick a different 100 film for 120 because of availability...

It will be in Rodinal. So I wonder if forum members have any experience or preference for Tmax100 or Acros...

Thanks!

Neither is really good with Rodinal - in my experience "flat crystal" films do not benefit from the increased acutance and granularity like old style emulsions do, but rather lose in subjective sharpness. Given the large negative, the result is not problematic in medium format and I would develop them in Rodinal if I had nothing else at hand, but I prefer any of T-Max developer, HC-110, XTOL or D76 (in that order) for T-Max 100, and XTOL, HC-110 or T-Max dev (the latter based upon one sample only) for Acros.

Strange... I have heard lots of good things about Acros in Rodinal, in several forums... I never tried it, though... I will stick to Rodinal because I love it, and I have enough for a few years... On last month I checked (bought a bottle) of TMax developer, and compared it to Rodinal for normal and push development with TriX and TMY, and I must admit prefer Rodinal... May be my taste...

Thank you!

Sevo's experience is 100% different than mine. I have been using both films in Rodinal for many, many years now. I like them both. I think Tmax 100 has better tonality and is my first choice, but the lack of reciprocity failure with Acros makes it my choice for any low-light medium format work.

Tmax 100, Rodinal 1+50, EI-50. This little image on the web does not do justice to the EXTREME fine detail this photo captured in the door.

Tmax 100 looks great in D76 too. This is D76 1+1. Rodinal looks a little sharper to me in final prints.

I love Acros in Rodinal, it's quite beautiful:

It's my main film in my Rolleiflex. I shot tons with it but have only uploaded one pic so far. I'm a little submerged with work/move/film processing/pp.

I have developed a few rolls of Acros in Rodinal. Most of them have been in 35mm but I found 120 to use the same development times.

In 35mm you can really see how fine grained the film is even when developed with Rodinal, I normally use Plus-X so the difference was day and night for me. I shoot Acros at EI50 and developed in 1+100 Rodinal for 18m.

I think I'll test TMax100, just because TMax400 is really wonderful.

And I'll shoot it on direct sunlight only... Trying to get something close to 1/500 at f/2.8 with my Zeiss 150mm f/2.8 Sonnar with yellow filter for portraits.

Those using TMax100 in Rodinal 1:50, what's your developing time for controlled contrast (pull) on direct sun, just to start tests with a shorter and a longer time?

Cheers,

Juan

I guess those shots are not under direct sunlight... Is your time of 12 minutes / ISO 100 for good control of high contrast, sunny scenes?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Juan

No thats for overcast days and I get an EI of 50, but that may be my meter. I use handheld spot meter. For sunny days I get EI 25 and 8.5 minute dev. time. I'd try 8.5 minutes and ei 25 and 50.

Chris, that ISO and that time sound better for direct sun...

I'll test 7, 8 1/2 and 10 minutes, metering incident at 50, 25 and 12 because of the yellow filter... That'll be enough, I guess...

Thank you very much!

Cheers,

Juan
