TMax100 or Acros for 120 in Rodinal?

Juan, those shots were under a mix of full sun to partly cloudy. I found the contrast nice throughout.

Are you wet printing, or scanning?

I didn't see direct sun in those images...

I print on fiber paper, Bergger or Ilford, and I like the shot OK when base+fog reaches pure black, then for sunny scenes I prefer a short development and a generous exposure, so both shadows and sunny areas are clean and detailed.

Cheers,

Juan

I like APX100 in Rodinal, but I think I need to pick a different 100 film for 120 because of availability...

It will be in Rodinal. So I wonder if forum members have any experience or preference for Tmax100 or Acros...

Thanks!

Hi Juan,

Acros 100 is significantly better in Rodinal compared to TMX. Because Acros is a very smooth, rather soft looking film. Softer than Delta 100 and TMX, which are looking sharper with most developers.
With Rodinal Acros negatives can achieve a very good sharpness, without too large grain.
If you even want to reduce grain, use Rodinal at lower temperatures, 16-18°C.
With lower temperatures you even get 1/3 stop more speed.

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks, Jan... I use Rodinal at 18ºC, because long ago I read somewhere it was good to keep it below 20ºC (but above 15ºC)...

By the way, I went for TMax100 and found it's wonderful in Rodinal. I'm just as pleased and surprised as I was with TMax400 some weeks ago... These days I'm loving the yellow label... Well, as always really, after a lifetime with Tri-X!

Great overall tone, good contrast but open shadows, deep blacks, clean medium grays, and what I love for sunny days: whites that pop! I did my test with 35mm film, and now I'll go check it with MF...

And other funny thing: the contacts I printed today from 35mm TMax100, took exactly the same 24 seconds that took my contacts from MF TMax400 some days ago... That's cool, so no strips again ever for my two new films in any format: directly to contact prints even mixing formats!

Cheers,

Juan

EDIT: I meant the 400 was calibrated for shadows and overcast... So if a day I shoot both under direct sun and in the shadows too, I can place both films from both different light scenes in the same contact print...

Acros Rodinal Stand

Acros Rodinal Stand

I'm just in the process of developing a test roll of Acros in Rodinal using P. Lynn Miller's formula for stand development. I'll post the results when finished.

Here is the link to the RFF thread where the formulas appear, about half way down: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61643&page=2

Cheers...

OK...I'm rather pleased with the results of my stand developing of Acros in Rodinal. These aren't the greatest scans in the world, and it's pretty difficult to get the full effect from reduced jpgs for the web. An 8x8 print from the full size scan looks quite nice.
