Tmax400 @ 1600 - dev times for R09, please?

Hi guys -

I used up all my NeoPan 1600 halfway thru a concert, and had to load the Bessa with a spare TMax400 that was in the bag. I exposed it @ 1600 ASA (didn´t dare to go higher, and 1600 gave reasonable shutter times).

Come developing time: I have Calbe R09 or Tetenal Neofin Blue as my options.

Please guide me, it´s been 30+ years since I last pushed a film (and the results were very thin)...

Times, dilutions, agitation, temperature? So many variables, so little time 😕 . And no way to get back there and shoot a test roll under the same conditions...

Tips & pointers welcome. Yes, I have seen the devchart, but I need advice from live people with hands on experience on this.

Edit: after doing some homework, the Neofin seems to be ruled out acc to datasheet - simply not suitable, from what I read.

About the R09, I found one piece of relatively solid info - some calculator on a german site

which may or may not be correct.

Can anyone verify/deny/"ballparkify" the times suggested by this calculator?

* Tmax400, pushed 2 stops, R09, 20C, assuming 1 agitation/minute = 17:36

* ditto, but with 30 sec agitation interval= 15:19

(They list data for Neofin Blue, too, which seems strange, given that Tetenal say it´s a low- to medium ASA developer. With same data, they say 30:48 (1 min agitation) and 26:48 (30 sec agitation)

Ideas and comments appreciated.

Definitely R09 nor Neofin Blue

Xtol, DDX or even D76 may do a good job, but do not expect anything very good out of that exposure.

Well, I don´t expect miracles from this roll - but I´d like to have "something" = better than "nothing". Can anyone verify that the figures in that calculator are reasonable with R09 (I have no other developer option at this point, Neofin apparently being ruled out)?

My data for Rodinal says:
TMax 400 EI 400 Rodinal 1+50 = R09 1+40 says 10 minutes

I would double that at least, agitating once every 2 minutes to maximize shadow detail and prevent blooming of the highlights.
So let's say 20 minutes at 20C agitating every 2 minutes (after the 1st minute)

Rodinal 1+25 = R09 1+20 says 5 minutes

I would double that at least, agitating once every 2 minutes to maximize shadow detail and prevent blooming of the highlights.
So let's say 20 minutes at 20C agitating every 2 minutes (after the 1st minute) for 1+40 or 12 minutes agitating every minute for 1+20

Or if you are brave do 1+100 semi stand for 60 minutes
agitating the 1st minute, on the 15th, 30th and 45th minute

Well, I ain´t that brave. BTW, my Calbe R09 data sheet says 8 minutes for Tmax400, which upsets the formula somewhat, I guess. I have to get a reality check on that calculator. Thanks anyway, wish me luck 🙂
