One of my favorite films. Some others love it as well. Others still could live without it.
Please post Tmax 400 images.

Good idea this thread. There are however two Tmax400 films: 400-2TMY and 400-TMY. For both: Perceptol 1+2; 23 degrees C.; 11 minutes; every 30 sec. agitation.

Hi Erik
There are two types. Lets include both in the thread.
I have not always recorded which type in my notes.

what's the difference between the two? Just old and new?

The second version according to Kodak is a sharper film. Everything else is the same (according to Kodak): development, EI, scanning, etc. And I agree with them I treated them the same during the change over. I had zero problems.

I see T-max400 as an obvious improvement of TriX, but TriX seems to be a far more popular film. Why?

Tri-X has a lot of flexibility. You can pull it to 250, push it to 1600, and still get good results. When I use Tri-X with Diafine, I know I'll get good results exposing at iso 800; for TMax, it's 500. Not a huge difference, but still...
With Tri-X's flexibility, there is IMO a trade-off in the grain department. I prefer the finer grain of TMax 400. Also, whites seem to sparkle in TMax 400 in a way I don't see with Tri-X (Andy's photo of the goose above is a good example). TMax 400 has become my go-to black and white for travel.

This photo is a great example of one reason I like TMax 400 so much: it seems to make whites sparkle. Beautiful photo, Andy.
