If Fujifilm eats Kodak - that will be good news. If the Chinese eat Fujifilm afterwards - that will the best of all. They are a very prosperous people with the sky wide open. The day will come for the Vietnamese too.

Cheers,
Ruben

BTW PS:
Comerade Sparrow, are you quoting Das Kapital ?

Yes, the Chinese are getting more prosperous daily - so why assume that they won't want the "latest" technology and all that goes with it including digital cameras etc.?

I personally enjoy film shooting and hope it lasts as long as I do - but digital imaging is NOT going to go away and is the dominant photographic media by far.

The hope for me is that there will remain enough of a user base for a viable niche market for film-based photography.

Eckerd Drug stores quit selling 120 roll film in 1987. They were one of the few drug stores that sold 120 film.

Actually I pour the chemicals in with my old oil. They have a great haz waste disposal system.
I'm more worried about the weed killer and crap the neighbors throw on the grass.

Yeah, if someone nearby has an abandoned well all that crap washes into it.

No Wealth of Nations for dummies, like to pretend I'm still a comrade however.

A quick survey round the office I put the UK market next year at about 300 million in film stock alone, mainly in disposables, that’s a big niche

That's because I have held off punching huge gaping holes in all of your lovely theories, which are all without basis and void of logic. So go on and have your happy dance, you have solved all the problems and film will live forever now.

You guys are a riot.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

Right on Bill!

I like shooting film, but I just don't see 35mm film staying readily available at affordable prices for many more years. Digital is well on its way to replacing 35mm in the consumer space and that's reality, whether we like it or not. Me, I don't mind so much, I like shooting digital too.

Medium format and large format have survived as a niche product for years, but I'm willing to bet that as soon as somebody can make an affordable large sensor/digital back we'll see those formats die off as well. Frankly, this is the part of the digital revolution that I'm really waiting for: an affordable digital view camera.

Our area doesn't have abandoned wells. Wells are our only source of water here.
I just had mine extended to a better limestone layer for filtering.

This is very much our situation up in Copake. Only a few towns have water systems (and who knows how good they are) and those of us up in the hills use wells.

I am "safe" living on a "clearing" that we only mow on 15 acres and surrounded by woodlands. But I see some of these people around me trying to maintain "sububran-style" lawns bu putting all that weed killer and turf builder crap on and not thinking where it migrates too!

I don't worry about the stuff I generate. I can always pour it in my neighbors well. LOL

this perfectly matches your previous statement:

"Must be something in the water".

Film is just a means to an end, as soon as there’s an easer means or a better end the argument is finished

Wait until they start spreading digital camera viruses (virae?). Oh, then the "new" film trend will be all the rage.

I actually get a kick out of seeing people taking sides on the Digital/Film "discussion". Use both, for crying out loud. Do you only use a pencil to write, and never gone back to using a pen? Or used the Courier font and never looked back at the Times font?

I'll watch on the other side of where Bill's watching  (I'll catch the tomatoes; I don't know what's rolling out that way)

I have a Glashütte mechanical watch. This one:

OK, so it is a Nautische Instrumente Mühle Glashütte, not the one you meant.

But it is still cool - and I bought it when I was in Germany!
Umm, that is, like, so last millenium. Now that Windoze and Unix have perfected the clock, it is always synchronized, and I never ever have to translate antiquated analog radial mapping to meaningful, unadulterated cold digits.

My cell phone has one too, and during the last daylight savings time it flawlessly forgot to adjust the time due to the new law enacted recently by Congress.

This seems to be tiring out as a thread.

Hey, isn't it time now for one of those ZI vs. Leica battles? ;)
