To any Canadians who have bought gear from Hong Kong..

I'm hoping some of my fellow Canadians can help out here.. I've often considered ordering Leica gear from eBayers located in Hong Kong, but am unfamiliar with the additional taxes/levies that might get added on to the final sale price by Canada Customs. Can someone shed some light on what I should expect?

There is no duty on cameras, lenses, or photographic equipment. However, there is GST on the declared value, as well as a handling fee. Check this out: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=89563&postcount=30

Thanks for the link, BJ! I wasn't sure how to search for such a "specialized" topic on the forums.

PS: I concur that UPS sucks. I bought a Domke bag from another RFF member a while ago that was shipped by UPS. They ended up adding something like $40 to the cost of the bag for "brokerage fees". :bang:
