Just wondering if there are any interests for bulk buying some kodak film. ill looking at getting some portra 160, 400, and Tri-X. im looking at getting it off ebay as the pricing ive been seeing is $5-6/roll for the 160 and $4-5/roll for the Tri-x. these prices will be for orders of 100 per batch.

thoughts?

Please let me know if there are other methods to get these films at a cheaper price.

Peter

I'll bump this because with all the hooha about Kodak it may be time for action!

I'd steer clear of eBay personally and stick with Freestyle. Freestyle still have Arista Premium in stock in 24 and 36 exp rolls and we know this to be Tri-X ... at less than three dollars per roll. They also still have 100ft rolls of the same stuff for $45.00 ... Tri-X is listed at $74.00.

I'd personally be interested in some freezer stock of anything Kodak because they have made their intentions with consumer film very clear!

yeah i only know 2 other ppl in brisbane that may be in the market for film atm. I got myself an old fridge from my sister so i have myself plenty of space to hoard

I'm in Brisbane. Recently received a variety of film from B&H. I find their prices very competitive. If you get enough of it the costs of transportation are pretty low - and it gets here quickly.
Just copied these from B&H: (with the Aussie dollar at about 1.03 there is also that advantage - and I'm including the 400CN because I like it :)
discovered that Photo Continental at Mt Gravatt will develop rolls of C41 for $3.50 each - that's all I get them to do - I then scan on the V700)

BW400CN 135-36 Professional Black & White (Chromogenic C-41) Print Film (ISO-400) $US 5.25

Portra 160 Color Film / 135 $US 5.99

TMX 135-24 T-Max 100 Professional Black & White Negative (Print) Film (ISO-100)
Discount price:
 $3.99
Limited supply at this price

TX 135-36 Tri-X Pan Black & White Print Film (ISO-400) $US 3.99

yeah i looked at b&h. i agree that they are quite competitive with pricing. ill try calculate the cheapest shipping to amount purchased ratio haha

i also use photo continental to develop. they charge more for b&w unfortunately, and i have not learnt how to develop yet. i also have a v700 haha. im still using silverfast because i just dont understand how to use vuescan.

Really urge you to take the plunge with developing your own b&w film. Plenty of threads here to give an idea of what's involved. It's so cheap to do it yourself.
You will be amazed at how good your own efforts can be compared to a lab (or some guy they outsource it to). You probably won't have spotting or streaks on the negs
I find the V700 with the feet turned to the + on the 35mm film holder does a great job, particularly with lower ISO stuff like Plus X - and the Arista version mentioned above by Keith (although he was referring to the ISDO 400 version).
Tried Vuescan and Silverfast and got a bit lost. Must be early onset dementia judging by the number of folks who swear by both. My neuronal pathways seem more attuned to the native Epson software.
best of luck

P.S. try some Kodak 400CN at Photo Continental at $3.50 a pop and run it through your V700 - I have found it works really well - particularly if you expose the CN as if it was ISO 320 film - it's different, but to my eye as good as Plus X in terms of tonality and apparent grain (of course it's C41). I'm going to get back to some traditional b&w developing myself this weekend or next just for the satisfaction of it - but on a time/cost analysis it's hard to beat the $3.50 for someone else to do b&w C41 film development and then scan yourself (better scans too I've found)

yeah id like to learn to develop but due to the fact that im a uni student, and one with particularly bad time management. I have yet to find time to learn the art of developing.

ah, i so did not need to read that. now i'm tempted to blow money that i don't really have, nor do i have much in the way of storage space!

my fridge is already full of 35mm film, though. need to buy some 120.... not necessarily Kodak.

yeah this is going to be a costly exercise. me and a mate have been looking at purchasing from maco direct because apparently overseas purchases arent charged VAT and the shipping charges are much more cheaper than b&h
