This isn't a hood but a masking of haze filter for my 35mm LTM lens. I haven't tried it, what do you think?

Huh? Sure looks like a sort of hood to me. There doesn't need to be a filter under the tape, and there probably shouldn't if the goal is flare reduction. But if one wants to use a filter, masking the parts that aren't used can't hurt. In that picture, the unmasked area looks a bit narrow though.
I've used tape to mask down hoods that are too wide. I saw it somewhere on the internet myself.
