To Post or Not Post to the Gallery

I traded away my Leica equipment for a Canon 5D system. I like to sell stock images on the internet to defray my photography costs and the 5D enhances my acceptance ratio.

On the other hand, I know I will soon get another rangefinder to satisfy the creative side.

Should I sit out posting to the gallery for now? Or would it be acceptable to post a few "impure" digital images?

well, it is as you wish (especially since you registered).

But in my humble opinion, I like the RFF gallery because I know there are (mostly) pictures taken with rangefinders and the according lenses.

I like to randomly browse through the excellent pictures people post here, and sometimes I like to see which rangefinder equipment whas used to take a particular picture. Occasionally it is not a rangefinder and I almost feel a little bit betrayed.

There are many forums/pictures repository which are not rangefinder specific, so DSLR/SLR/... pictures might feel more are home there. There`s Photonet, Photosig, dslrforum ...

Digital pictures are not impure. Not if they are taken with a RD-1 or M8, that is 😉

Just my 2 cents. I hope I do not come accross as arrogant, because it is not my intention.

BTW, I also own a 5D, and it is a hell of a good camera. Enjoy.

Not always less creative, but more business. Since film grain seems to be less accepted in the circles I find myself these days, and since I happen to like film grain, the film-based rangefinder would have no commercial application for me, leaving only the creative side to be considered.

I didn't mean to suggest that any medium or technique can't be creative.

Dick, tough question because we try and always have tried to be inclusive here at RFF. The gallery though is intended for RF photography. Obviously some digital images (not from RF cameras) are posted here, but generally that is an exception not the rule. We all (almost all) have non RF cameras and many have posted some shots not take by RF along with their RF images. We would like to not have members exclusively posting non RF images though.

I say slip one in every once and a while, and buy another RF soon.

To post or not post... your call. Here at RFF, I look for RF pics. But there is a DSLReXchange Forum link in the right column that's a pretty nice place.

we really have to push the dslr site more. now that i have revisited the land of film slr i will posting more over there myself.

dick, i am in agreement with rover. being exclusive is not the way to go if we want an open and tolerant membership but we need to realize that many folks come here for the rf chat and pics and so we are fine with the occasionaly non rf shot but prefer it not to be a steady diet.

Nice discussion folks.

Although I'm pretty new here, I've come to expect that the general subject lines are all about rangefinders, as should be any gallery offerings. I look for inspiration and education here, and that certainly includes looking at lots of gallery photos.

I also shoot with DSLR and SLR, and hustle images via "stock photography", but this seems to be the only place that I want to post gallery shots. I think, maybe, that I'm comfortable enough with the DSLR and SLR (both Canons) images that I produce, but am still looking to tighten up the qualities of the RF, and want to see what y'all are doing...

I think it's great that you asked. I spend a little time on DSLR myself and having the RFF "tone and respectability" exteneded to another site is pretty cool. It's a little slow over there these days, so please so us your 5D pics! 🙂

I did think to order a lens . . . a 35/1.7, stretching the R3A's viewfinder a little. I have sworn off Leicas for awhile. I haven't had one for three months!
