In order to fund another purchase, perhaps an M9... would I be crazy to part with a black paint MP in great condition and a Summilux 50mm ASPH that is only a a few months old?

And how much would you pay for these items?

How much dis you pay for them? Yu could always test that price but putting up an ad for them at thy price here.

Otherwise check eBay successfully completed sales prices and go from there.

i hate to say this but it seems like a 'do i want a drf question'.
if you stay with film then it's hard to beat an mp for the sheer beauty of the machine.

you could be practical and find an rd1 in good condition to see if you enjoy the drf experience first.

Sell and live to regret it. Keep and enjoy until you die, 'cuz the MP will surely outlive you. If you want an M9 just save your pennies. It'll come to you later, after having thought and considered the matter much more seriously.

Besides, what'll you do with it after the M10 comes out? Think about it... :)

I have faced a similar dilemma, but decided to keep them.
1. The prices seem to be going up, and if you want to buy back in, it will be nore expensive. Of course, the opposite could just as easily happen.
2. Most Leica dealers seem to have shrinking inventories of the best bodies and lenses.
3. If I had to sell all and just keep one shooting Combo, this would be it.

How bad do you want to go digital? I think if you want to go mostly or all digital then sell the MP and keep the lens for the M9. Jim

I'm quite enjoying the film experience and also have an M7 and 3 medium format bodies as well. The medium format can easily, but expensively, upgraded to digital backs. But I'm not sure I want 2 film M bodies and the prices have gone up so I won't lose on my investment if I sell now.

But after scanning in some film over the last few days, it is a bit of a pain, yet, I already have a 23MP body in the MP when paired with the scanner. So... the dilemma.

I would sell the MP (a quite overrated camera, IMHO) and keep the lens. Lenses like the 50mm Summilux ASPH made Leica famous and I am 100% sure that you would miss that lens on a FF dRF camera. ;)

Why not sell the M7? Chances are that your MP will outlive your M7 and it will definitely outlive an M9. The MP and ASHP Lux were made for each other.

The MP is the best camera I own. To me, it's a magic box.

I use to have both the 50 lux's - asph / non (last version) - I sold the asph version. I love the non-asph version.

I just got the M7 new a la carte, so it's exactly what I want :)

If you want an M9 and have an M7 that you like, I'd sell the MP (if you won't miss it that much) and keep the 50.

Keep them! You have the perfect combo here. The only thing I might advise you doing is selling the MP for a 0.85 model, if it's not already. You have a great setup here. Buy it a new dress/skin from cameraleather... Best of luck either way you go.

If you feel like you will use the M9 more than the MP, it makes sense to sell it.

But why sell the lux?

In the world of photo hardware I live by the adage "Never sell
anything Leica you will only buy it back later at a higher price."

The MP is pretty much perfect as is. The M9 (like all digital cameras)
will go through a series of "upgrades" and I suspect you end up
simply longing for the latest in digital wizardry.

The new M7 is .85 as I shoot 35/50/90 - and I have a magnifier for the .72 MP which does the trick for that. Although if someone offered a trade on a .85 chrome...

As 68% have indicated that I'm clearly crazy... I'm leaning towards keeping both.

The only reason to sell the Summilux would be to turn a profit, they seem to be in high demand and I (perhaps mistakenly) think I can get another and put some money towards something else. Did anyone see the 35mm Summilux that sold for $8000 recently?!

You won't care if you sell the camera. You *will* care if you sell the lens. Trust me on that one. :(.
