Today, I will have some fun. I will, perhaps, experience creativity.
Yesterday, I stored, transported and messed about with a huge Expedition 8 backpack full of Nikon stuff — D200, D70s and 4 or 5 of Nikon's finest glass. It was a great system and the instant "snick" of the AF popping into focus was satisfying and addictive. The raw images as interpreted by PS were pleasing, indeed. I had pioneered the acceptance of digital with some of the small publishers I had dealings with. I had the first digital cover used by one. I had a small income stream from internet stock sales. Everything was photographically fine. Except, I wasn't photographically happy.
First, I aquired a little unobtrusive Voitlaender T out of deference to some nostalgic corner of my mind. A few weeks and I was thinking along the lines of: If a T is this much fun to use, maybe an M6 0.85 TTL wouldn't be so bad, either. It wasn't.
There followed the usual gathering of lenses and film where I found them, locally or on the internet. I was almost always opting to grab the small bag of rangefinder stuff than that formidible Expedition 8.
Yesterday, I traded that big bag of digital equipment for a 21mm Elmarit and a big wad of cash. I feel unburdened and look forward to creating images — not necessarily great or even good — but mine, done my way.
Am I out of digital permanently? Well, let's see what the M8 looks like.
