I am not normally one to blow my own trumpet, but I do feel the need to just share this.
I have just delivered 6 A2-sized, framed photos to a restaurant in Farnham, in Surrey (Andersons, if you are in the area - very good food). They have a 1920's, Art Deco sort of vibe, and were looking for appropriate artwork to adorn their walls. In addition to the 6 photos they have chosen, they will also have an album of my work in their reception/seating area complete with price list and order form, for diners who like what they see.
This all started because in the front of their menu was a note that they were looking for local artists to come forward to display and sell work from their walls. I got talking to the owners (Alyson and Stuart, really nice people) and a couple of days later took in a portfolio that I have been pulling together for some time on Guildford, as well as a slideshow on a laptop. They selected from there a range of photos, but decided to buy them outright.
The idea evolved from there to put a portfolio of my work in a book in their reception area, complete with order forms and pricing. Their decor is 1920s-1930s, with a very strong theme, and they chose photos to match - there were some that they really liked, but they just wouldn't "work" on their walls, unfortunately.
So I've ended up providing them with the aforementioned prints, framed (at cost) and discounted, of course, plus the book, which is being printed as I speak, at my cost. I've gone with about 50 images, categorised into "chapters". They can be bought as A2, A3 or A4 prints, and most as greeting cards. I'll frame if requested, but framing is at cost. I'm printing with a wide white border, or rebate, to even out variances in ratio, but will print full-bleed, with the risk of cropping, if requested.
All printing is via one of the online services, and the quality is excellent.
At the moment, I'm out of pocket, with the cost of the portfolio, but I only need to sell half a dozen A4 prints to break even.
This is a new departure for me, and for the restaurant, so we'll see how it goes! Even if I don't make a penny It's really nice to see so much of my work up on the walls.

Congratulations Bill! - you must be really pleased, and deservedly so! looks like an exellent body of work. It's not often that I have ocasion to visit that part of the country these days, but will make a point of seeking out that establishment! - If and when. It's such a nice change to see a post like this on RFF, and I wish you every success....well done!

Did you print it digitally or darkroom? Those will be very lovely when printed and toned on a nice FB paper.

Thank you all. Will, all prints were done digitally - sadly, I am one of those who has no wet darkroom. I do agree that some - the Cord in particular - could look quite splendid on a FB paper. And thank you Pappy, for your comment on my Blog - it's just a bit of fun, but I'm really enjoying it.
