Hi guys,
I was wondering. Which M models have top plates that are directly interchangeable without modifications? I'm guessing the M2, M4 and M4-P top plates can be interchanged directly, right? Maybe the M6 TTL and M7 too.
Cheers,
Rob

With the older types, M2, M4, M4-2, M4-P, M6 it should be no big problem except for possibly necessary modification of the sync ports.

The key things to watch for are the number of flash sync holes, and the shape of the rewind (knob for M2/M3, slanted for M4 and M6, except for the M6-2000).

M2 and M3 plates can interchange directly, except for very early M3's. The early M3 have extra screw holes and probably fit on an M2 body.

M4, M4-2 and M4-P plates can interchange.

Beware of M6 and M6-TTL plates - I don't think they interchange because the TTL is a higher top.

A little offtop: somebody knows were did the amateur video of removing m6 top plate gone from the youtube?.. I need to see it...

The rewind assembly must be compatible with top plate , too. And M3's frameline illumination window is plain ground glass while later cameras have fresnel prisms.

I think only M4/M4-2/M4-P have interchangeble top plates.

M2 and M3 have different frame counters.

M6 classic and M4* have 1 vs. 2 sync plugs.

M1 and M2 might be interchangeable, but not sure, since I never saw an M1 in person.

Not sure either about MP, MP-3, and their compatibility with M2/M3.

Roland.

M1 doesn't have a window for the RF, so you would be left with a hole there, but I guess it would fit.
