Tough decision...give up my G2s?

Pick up a Hexar RF body instead of the M7, and you can get several extra G2 bodies with the difference. 🙂

I did Leicas for years and I also has the G's. Look very closely at the Zeiss Ikon. I sold my M7 to get it.

Keep the G. Finance the Leica. I have a G2 in black w/ matching 21, 28, 45 and 90mm lenses. I finally gave in to Leica Lust and now own an M2 which I love the hell out of...an M6TTL and a 35 'lux. Soon to pick up a 75 'lux for use with the .85 M6. Leica is so well suited for low light work and easy to use w/ hyperfocus when street shooting. The lenses are marvelous, the body sublime to shoot with. I love working w/ mechanical cameras and not having to rely on batteries. Its a freeing experience. It must be how women in the 60's felt when they burned their bras (yeah, right!). I keep thinking I'll trade the G sytem for a 75 'lux, but know I'll be sorry later on. The G is a bit quirky, but produces outstanding results, especially the 90mm and 21mm Biogon. I think I'll end up keeping the G and financing a 75. I know it's a bit spendy, but the G will be used again at some point. If not, it makes a beautiful paperweight on my desk.

The 45 Planar is as good as if not better than any lens out there, and the 90 is of the same optical quality as the Elmarit. And you aren't getting a Leica 28 at all. I don't know -- it would have to be a tremendous deal on the M7 and lenses to make it worthwhile.

I can certainly understand your Leica lust -- but as a picture maker I don't think you will do better than the Contax. I'm kind of thinking that you should find a less expensive way to satisfy the lust -- like a nice M3 with an Elmar.

KoNickon has the right idea here. . . but, the M7 will retain its value better probably, will last longer, and will fit more lenses than the G2 (am I wrong on this last point?).

I'd personally trade in the 2 G2s for the M7 kit BUT I would not do it if I had to throw in more than $1000 on top of the deal.

From a totally logical perspective, from a more "here and now" point of view, trading the G2s for the M7 doesn't make any sense because you aren't going to get more usability really - not if you are happy with AF. You have to think, what weighs more? Longevity and mystique or functionality and redundancy (you have two in case one is injured)? Is it the pictures or the camera that matter most? Will you miss that nice 28mm?
Plan on adding at least $400 to the deal to replace the 28mm with something like an Ultron.

Thanks, guys, for all of the comments. I wound up selling off my Nikon gear and a Mamiya 645(haven't used it), picked up the M6TTL .85 instead of the M7. I'll post some shots soon. Best of all worlds with the G2s and Leica.
