Toy Cameras and Sex

Just noodling along Twitter, looking for people to follow, and I think I've noticed something.
It seems to me that a very high percentage of Holga/Diana/other such camera users are women. Not a scientific observation to be sure, but certainly the female/male ratio is much higher than I've noticed in places like RFF.

I know I'm a horrible sexist for indulging in generalities, but it has always seemed to me that female photographers, on the whole, were less gear oriented and more results oriented.
Could it be that low-tech cameras are more appealing to the female sex?
 
Depends on what they shoot. Most of the psychedelic stuff in the Holga books are by women (unscientific study). Also the cross-processing group seems to be very young and more toy than camera users. I don't know what that all means, maybe Mcary is right, they are all waiting for 09/09/09.

As with all generalities...it says just about nothing definite about any individual. So don't feel threatened...girlie-man. 😀

This I think is almost alway true. Sure there are some female photographers who also are quite technical and enjoy the gear. More often than not the equipment is less important as far as the relationship to the results.

So maybe the second sentence is also True. I sure hope that some of the women here will comment.

BTW I don't have a Holga but, I do have an AGFA "Clack" and it's pretty fun. Not as sharp in the center as the Holga.
Should I get a Holga? Are they really that fun?
 
Of course there are exceptions, but statistics would show that males are more into gear and technology than females. Look at the world of classic and racing cars and motorcycles, locomotive enthusiasts, RC cars and planes, and RFF itself.
 
Yep, I guess the girls have better things to do than compile lists and argue the toss about the fastest/slowest, most/least reliable, best/worst engineered.. etc etc.

Much simpler to say "I like the blue one, I'll take that." then get on with the important stuff.
 
Well it is pretty obvious what females prefer toy cameras because they lack the mental capacity to master the technicalities of a real camera.

(It should also be pretty obvious that I'm being sarcastic 🙂 )

I believe that most just want to take the shot and don't really care about the technical jargon in doing it...guys are gearheads...we like impressing our camera buddies with all the stuff our cameras can do...
How many of us have used our hi-tech cameras to their fullest extent...:bang:

Oh dear. Nonetheless, me thinks this is going to be one of those monster threads. 😉
 
Well, I don't carry my holga in a man-bag like my other cameras. It rides in a plastic grocery bag. I hope that balances things out in the greater scheme of things.
