What is it going to take to get our collective brains back in order?
A photographer is arrested for taking pictures of an Amtrak train for the Amtrak photography contest...

Most likely an emema...
Seriously, as someone who photographs trains a lot, this stuff is scary. We've even been approached by police when we RENTED the train for the day. Fortunately, we had someone from the railroad there to intercede with the police, but that isn't always the case.

Another arrest in NYC of an off duty MTA employee taking pictures of a train in the Bronx. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/18/nyregion/18about.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=man%20arrested%20on%20subway%20platform&st=cse

The joke of course is that there is no law against photographing trains in NY. And the photographer who was arrested showed the cop the law (on his Blackberry) that allows photography.
This is leftover "War on terror" nonsense. The people who are arrested have sued the cops and have gotten settlements in the $20,000 range.
Perhaps that's the answer. All of you NY photographers do a 'meetup' and get a dozen shoots on every train stop in the city snapping away. It would protest the harrassment and
provide an opportunity to educate the cops.

Hell, let's ALL get arrested. I could get me a nice new MP and an aspheric lens or two for $20,000!

Could this be a new way to pay for my trips home? Count me in, Al!

At last, others' stoopeedity may have cash rewards. Yeah, where do we meet?
I could use some of that money to make up what I lost by letting my money sit in the bank.

Okay, while my idea of a meet up is great, the big problem is that I'm in the Pacific NW where we don't have subways so while I may be the ringleader I can't be there so it will be up to intrepid NY Rangefinders to carry out the aforementioned action and stand up for photographic freedom and against stupidity.
