Travel set up... 24, 50, 90 OR 21, 35, 75?

I voted 25, 50, 90 because that fits well in my bag and that's what I took last time.
But I now have a 21. I am not sure I would take that for all trips, but for European cities certainly. I don't have a 75 and wouldn't find it long enough or wide enough to give it a place on a trip. For one lens alone I'd be happy with a 35 or a 50. If I had the 40 Nokton I might just take that.

If you're referring to me, yes Sir I do indeed. The 21 is the Asph, the 28 is the F2.0, the 35 is a Lux Asph, the 50 is the Noct, and the 90 & 135 are both Apos. That makes a nice system along with 4 bodies, 2 motors & 2 Leicavits.

Almost forgot--have to put film on the list, lol!

Depends on where U are going.

21 for a lot of show-off landscape/scenery, 90 for a lot of candid/cultural activities capture.

50 is optional for a half body shot of your another half across the dining table.

If the dining tables are small, go 35.

My kit for a long time was 21/35/90. I've moved from the 35 to shooting more with a 50 though. If I want wide, I usually want WIIIDE, so the 21 works better for me than a 24/25.

So, for ME: 21/50/90. And I won't use the 90 that much. (but love it when I do).

For you? only you can answer that. Obviously we're not that much of a help- notice that most of these responses aren't even options on your poll! 🙂

I voted for the second set up although my own preference is 18/35/50 with a 90 as a luxury additional extra. The 35 and 50 are the absolute musts for me. The 18 (Zeiss ZM) is far enough away from the 35 for it to offer a radically different take on things.

am not providing n:th alternative, but for indoors, such as old castles, churches etc touristy visits, IMO 15-21mm is invaluable. then something for teleish side, 90-105 for example. and something for in between, 35-50, depending your preferences. well, I gave n:th alternative anyway 😛

But IF I carry a M it is 35 and 75 or 28,35 and 90.
I never leave home without a 35

21 40 90 is probably a pretty solid overall setup, but that's sort of biased towards close quarters (narrow street) and/or landscapes, and candids. 40 is close enough to normal that it doesn't really make a difference, 21 is going to be nice for if you have any narrow back-alleys (like morocco or china), and 90 is (needless to say) portrait friendly.

not really classical though. i'd say you're better off skewing towards one end or the other (wide vs long) depending on where you think you'll be traveling and what you think you'll be shooting. 21 40 75 for the wide set, 35 50 90 if things are longer. two lenses you could probably get away with 24 or 28 and a 75.

No, it's all YOU need. I much prefer 21-35-75, and don't like 28 at all.

Which makes a bit of a mockery of the question, really. How can anyone tell if he's going to be more like you or more like me?

Seems to me that you should pick between the 35mm and 50mm and then that'll answer your question regarding the others.

I can live very happy with a 28 and a 90/100. Don't really need those in the middle, nor wider than 28, but that's just me. I always have a 50 around, but I never take that with me or out of the bag unless I say to myself : let's put the 50 to some use. Otherwise it's 80% 28mm and 20% 90. My very personal choice.
