On my recent trip to SE Asia and Sri Lanka, I carried all my film in my carry-on bags. I took a lot of flights, and some security conscious airports will x-ray your bags on entering the airport and as you get to the gates, so I figure that my film must have passed through at least 20 x-ray units, some quite modern, some older. My film - Tri-X, Reala and NPH - survived fine. Just heed the advice in this forum, and if you're nervous and you have the time, ask the staff to hand-check the film.
