I've read that short development times leave smaller margin for error and that development times of less than 5 mins should be avoided.
I'm new to this, so I expect I'm going to need as much margin for error as possible.
Has anyone experience of Tri-X 400 in Rodinal Special - instructions indicate 1 + 15 dilution, 3.5 mins development time?

Has anyone tried longer development times in a weaker strength solution?

I do 1:25 at 6.5 mins - 30sec inversion at start and then 5 sec of inversion every 30 sec to the end.

It gets grainy - but I love the contrast.

greater dilutions such as 1:50 and 1:100 will give less grain

I'm talking about Rodinal Special, not ordinary Rodinal which I believe is an entirely different developer. I believe that Rodinal Special is also known as Studional.
I've found one supplier that recommends diluting 1:30 instead of 1:15 and adding 50% to development time. This sounds like a good option as it will bring the development time to over 5 minutes.
