I think that you got the main points. His goal was to end up with a minimal grain/high acutance scanner friendly negative with long tonal ranges and good shadow detail, without blowing the highlights. To that end he does stand development up to three hours using Rodinal/Xtol/Ascorbic Acid/Borax.
He was particularly taken with Acros and TMY-2 (and Ektar 100 for his color work).
He likes the end product. I'm ordering from his recipe and giving it a try. Heck, maybe I'll even lower the temperature.
