Tri-X 400 & Rodinal/Stand Dev. = Grain?

I think that you got the main points. His goal was to end up with a minimal grain/high acutance scanner friendly negative with long tonal ranges and good shadow detail, without blowing the highlights. To that end he does stand development up to three hours using Rodinal/Xtol/Ascorbic Acid/Borax.

He was particularly taken with Acros and TMY-2 (and Ektar 100 for his color work).

He likes the end product. I'm ordering from his recipe and giving it a try. Heck, maybe I'll even lower the temperature.

I'd like to hear how this comes out. I've toyed with the idea of Rodinal and HC-110 mixed, for a couple of reasons, but I've never done it. If you would PM me after your tests.

I think the XTol/Rodinal combination smooths things out a bit without sacrificing Rodinal's sharpness and tonal rendition. At least not too much, and perhaps Rodinal alone is justfine for certain scenes.

I still think your method of just finding a time for 1+100 is the best. I have a couple of films I use 1+100 and reduced agitation, and I can't tell the difference between my semi or full stand. Sometimes I think nothing is happening from about 20 minutes on so why bother and take a chance of uneven development or bromide drag or the tank getting hot and over developing. I haven't, thank goodness, done stand for two years, and haven't missed it.
