Hello Everyone

I was at a friends's birthday party last night and, since it was in a rather dim location, I decided to shoot Tri-X at EI 3200. I only have HC-110 and am wondering about how to develop the rolls.

The MDC has three very different entries:

1. "Dil F-G" 1:100 semi-stand for 120min at 20C
2. "Dil F-G" 1:100 for 21min at 30(!) C
3. Dil E for 8min, also at 30C

I normally develop at 18C and am a bit lost as to dilution, time and temp.

I would very much appreciate hints, suggestions and pointers from you, Learned Forum Members.

Kind regards
Philip

I would do semi-stand, I don't like to exacerbate low light's tendency towards contrast with too much agitation in development. HC110 seems to build highlight contrast quickly, so even less agitation with that for me compared to D76.

I'd use a pretty dilute solution, as well, 1:49 for minimum.

Thanks very much for the suggestion. Much appreciated. So 1:49 being twice the strength of 1:100 would you use 1hour approx?

HC 110 has little fog, so you can dilute quite a bit and extend the development time with a once every 3 minutes agitation. I would not agitate less than that, as it is easy to get uneven development. As to the dev time, it really depends on how you use the image later. If you scan, do not overdo it, as the highlights will block completely. If I had to do it blind, I would go for something like dil H (1+63) for half an hour at 20C. I am not sure that going to 30C is safe. You have to understand, that the shadows will be black anyway, there is no magic in developing for too long, if not in getting excessive contrast.
