Really nice David, my favourite is the balcony shot I think, lots of interesting repetition. How are you scanning? The grain seems quite pronounced...? Though I haven't used that film/dev combination myself.
give us more! Love this series!

Nice job, David. I really liked the second set, particularly the one of the guy in the outdoor shower. I need to take my Minolta XD11 out more often....

Thanks again guys.
The grain is more apparent because I sharpened and used the definition slider. The original scans are a bit smoother. I like the grain though

Davic those Nikkors have a signature all their own. No wonder Nikon owned the photo world in the '60s and '70s! Your excellent eye and technique didn't hurt, either. Will we see more?

It takes unusual discipline to not shoot color in Hawaii, I have found. I shoot more flowers and foliage and skies there than I shoot in Oregon. But when I look through my own images from Kauai, it's the ones in B/W I like best. Which reinforces what I find more and more a matter of temperamental taste: color for the ornamental and ephemeral, B/W for permanence in structure and stature.
These are splendid.Thanks for sharing.

I loved shooting b&w in Maui this past May - used an old Canon bottom loader and an Elmar 50/3.5 with a yellow filter. I liked the results.

What scanner did you use? What is your scan workflow? Thank you for your post!

Thank you everyone for looking. I guess b&w in Hawaii is relatively rare. It IS difficult not to reach for color...but I really like the results!
I'm using a Plustek 7600i for scanning (3600dpi=16 megapixels). I make sure I don't clip any highlights, set very neutral mid-tones, and scan. I add mid-tones to taste in Aperture on my MacBook Pro using Curves. I'll add a bit of definition instead of sharpening. If I need to do ANY dodging or burning, I'll use SilverEfex Pro 2 (no film preset). I just work on the neutral scan.
All in all, a very quick process (relatively). About two minutes to scan, a minute to import and open, two or three minutes of curves. At 16 megapixels, there's a lot of information to print from, and since its 35mm film to begin with, I don't worry about perfection (I love small format, warts and all...it looks real).
