Trial shot with noctilux

First trial with leica noctilux(50/1.0, type I, E58):

They all impress the smoothness of skin. The only fault is its size and weight.

I believe its the Nikon Noct-nikkor 58mm F1.2. Hand polish lens according sources. Optimized to render out of focus light source corectly.

Have you tried an E60 non-asphere Noctilux......?

Yes, the nikon is a reflex lens, but also manual one. I haven't tried a E60 noctilux, but I think E60 has a different feeling from E58. Someone's photo taken with E60 gives a feeling of rotation(out of focus corner area).

Here's a shot with an E60 Noctilux to demonstrate some circular rendition, though this isn't the best shot to demonstrate it. I dislike the hood design on this lens as it seems not to slide smoothly but rather pop in place unlike a telescopic hood. Strangely enough, I believe the circular effects are seen very clearly in foliage. This can be seen at the top in my example.

The window itself is a bit dirty and needs a clean which doesn't help. The E60 tends to render OOF as daubs of paint rather than smooth areas, esp. when the light is separated i.e. when passing through leaves.

Interesting. A much less sophisticated lens, the Novar-Anastigmat 75/3.5 found on some fifties folders produces very VERY similar out of focus 'swirl'. Here's an example.

I don't think the Leica should be used wide open when the subject is far from the camera. The circular bokeh of the background is too overpowering and makes the image look disorienting.

The Nikon looks outstanding however! how much do one of these lens go for?

Nikon noct depends on the condition. about $1600~2200.

Artem...I love the use of what would be considered sub par bokeh by some in your picture....it shows exactly why i like some of these lenses with the swirly OOF area....there is violent swirl on top and it just goes so well with the mood of the man on the bottom....
