Hi all,
A while ago, I started a thread about what to bring to Paris for a recent vacation. I ended up bringing 2 Canonet 17's with me (though one ended up jamming up while I was there).
What I discovered is that I really, really like working with RFs in a situation like this. Lightweight, quick to work with, and very intuitive. It was a lot easier than working with an SLR. However, I also learned that I really need an interchangeable lens system. Most of the time I was fine with the 40mm, but something wider would've been nice now and then.
My next goal, therefore, is to get an M-mount system (probably r2a) and go from there. I'm not going on another trip like this for a while so no hurry.
I wanted to show the results of that trip.
The gallery itself is here. However, while we've tried to pare down the photos, there are still a lot of images to go through. Plus, there are both Nikon SLR and Canonet images there.
Therefore, here's a quick list of my favorites, all taken with a Canonet. The image gallery I'm currently using does some undesirable stuff with image URLs, but these should persist for at least some time.
Eiffel in the Fog
Bench in Snow @ Hotel des Invalides
Metro
Sunlight @ Louvre
Statue @ Saint Chappelle
Place de la Concorde
Les Passages
Graffit @ Sacre Coeur
Statue & Tree, Tulieries
thanks for your time,
allan

My Red Dot Glows For You
Very nice, Allan. You do need an SLR in Paris if you don't know it too well, imo. I know I'll be bringing my M6 and lenses along with my 20D next time I'm there; I wonder which one will be used more, though...
A bientot.

Lovely.
Glad to hear you had a good time.
I'm also especially glad to see what nice photos these little guys make, because I have one waiting for me to pick up.
Cheers!

Cheers, Allan.
Both nice and original - not an easy achievement for pictures of Paris. You show that even in (wintery) autumn, the 'city of light' can be pictured in colour *and* monochrome.
Perhaps the best I can say is you make me want to take pictures of Paris myself!
(And yes, technically, I quite like the 40mm fov too.)

Thanks for all the kind words. I learned a lot on this trip, including how to enjoy my time somewhere without worrying _too_ much about the photos. Using the RFs really freed me on that point. In fact, having the fixed 40mm helped, too - I didn't have to worry about changing lenses since I had only the 1 lens
.
And since I forgot to say it before, big thanks to philippe (psteverin) for all the advice he gave on where to go (and for lunch!).
take care

Nice Paris Pics! I especially like the architectural detail/abstract shots
I just signed up for a street photography workshop in Paris next May (through Maine Photographic Workshops). I am quite excited about it and have started studying the work of Doisneu, Cartier Bresson, Boubat etc. for inspiration.
I don't have any canon RFs but I plan on bringing M6, maybe Epson RD-1 or perhaps if they come out with a new model by then, this is a perfect opportunity to go retro classic with the M6. I am probably bringing my 5D but debating on a fairly minimal lens set like 24-105 IS and one or two others only.

Well, if you're going to be doing a street photography workshop, I'd go as light as possible. M6 and a few lenses would be my choice, but you got the RD1 too, so I guess there isn't sense in leaving that behind.
I honestly feel like not having the SLR was just fine (my wife used the SLR - I might have taken 5 frames with it the whole time).
