I was out today using the ZI and a tripod, and the fact that the tripod bush is on the side of the camera, rather than the centre, was causing me some consternation. However tight I adjusted the tripod, the ZI leaned a little due to the fact it's fighting physics trying to stay level.

I've been informed that adaptors exist to move the tripod bush so that the camera is mounted at the centre, anyone got any ideas about these?

Thanks a lot

Garry

I think the problem you are having isn't related to the location of the tripod mount but its design: the tripod mount is situated under the film take-up spool and to accommodate both, Zeiss created something of a bulge in the baseplate at that point. As a result, there's very little surface area / friction between the camera and tripod head, so the camera is twisting.

You might try the Zeiss side grip which aligns the tripod mount with the lens mount and also creates a flat plate around the tripod mount so that there is more contact with the tripod head. You could even add some cork to the bottom of the side grip for more friction, though I typically prefer something like an Arca-Swiss style quick release plate. (Disclaimer: I haven't tried doing this myself.)

Good suggestion from Mike.

I also had trouble trying to fix a tripod plate to the camera. But once you add a grip, the tripod screw is now located at the center of the base plate and it's now easier to mount a tripod directly or to add a Acra Swiss type quick release plate. I recommend the RRS B9 plate. Great fit and I'm really happy with it.

Cheers,

I use the grip and on top of that the RRS L shaped bracket which makes it really easy to switch from horizontal to vertical.

I use the Zeiss grip which is more flimsy than I would like, but sufficient. I use the same qr plate I would use on my Nikons with it.
