Trix at 250 in Hc110, suggestions?

I have a large batch of film from a festival, all Tri-x shot at 250, would like to process it all in HC110, wondering if anyone has any experience with that combination? Would very much like to avoid short development times like 5 minutes, I've been enjoying the results of stand development at 1:100 with rodinal, wondering if I can get similar results with HC110.

GeneW does TX in HC-110, 1:100. I believe he does rate it at 250, but I am not sure. I am a skeptic when it comes to developers making much difference in film speed. I've always found Tri-X to be a 200 (older emulsion) or 250 speed film no matter what developer I've used.

Here's the combination I use:

Tri-X 400TX, exposed at ISO250, souped in HC110 Dilution B, 20 degrees celsius for 5 minutes.

No problem at all. I've been shooting with this combination for about 2 years now. Check out my website for the photos.

A rough guestimate on 1:100 would be 20 minutes. Dilution H (twice as dilute as B) would yield about 11 minutes.

With HP5+ at iso400, I develop for 18 min. in HC-110 diluted 1:100.

I worked out my way with Tri-X at both 400 and 200 in HC-110.
At 200, I do dill. H, 10 minutes, moderate agitation (constant slow first 30 sec., then two slow turns each subsequent minute) at 20 deg. C. Works great, excellent contrast.
At 400 - just add up another 2.5 minutes.

I recently tested the Tri-X/HC110 combo with a densitometer. Comes out to 6min for me with Dil. B at 20c. This is for a diffusion enlarger. I'd expect 5min to be the ballpark for condensor enlargers. Double the time fot Dil. H.

HC110 dilution H for 9 minutes @ 20c. .... 30 secs continuous gentle agitation and then 2 inversions per minute. Works like a charm for Tri-X and Neopan 400, . Both same time and same routine. Both exposed at Ei200 which is close enough to make no practical difference to your stated Ei250. All pics in my gallery developed this way.

Hi all...
I'm blown away by the high dilutions above, and will run a test roll. As for now this is what works at ISO 400, with bracketing when I can:

Dilution H [1:14] for 10 minutes with Tmax at 75f

Dilution H [1:14] for 11.5 minutes with HP5+ at 75f

NOTE: In the summer months here, the wash water is 80f [!] thus development at warmer temps. Having discussed Agitation with AlexZ previously, Agitation is continuous for the first 30 seconds, then 2 turns of the tank every 2 minutes.

Please, say only dill B, or H and not 1:63 or...,because we have Euro and USA gell. Euro HC-110 is already 1:3 dilluted

I shoot Tri-X at EI250 as the norm...shooting for the shadows. I develop as if it were shot at 400 (dil H for 14m @20C).

I go 20 min. in Rodinal 1:100 @ 20C. Agitate 30 seconds to start, then 5 sec (3 gentle inversions) every three minutes. Works fine for me, YMMV.

I do TriX @ 250 in HC-110h, 11 minutes, 68 degrees, 30 seconds agitation then 5 inversions every minute. This gives me what I like, but it may be just a little to dense for some. Dilution B would be 5.5 minutes with this formula. Here is a shot done this way:

This was a high contrast scene (noon in California, the worst) and the TriX @ 250 handled it.

Hi John,

I went to your flickr post, and the highs and shadow detail are very well handled. Seems to me that the letter designations, like 'h' ... beyond Dilution B with HC-110, can be confusing. My Dilution H is 1:14 with Tmax at 400.

What's yours with Tri-x at 250?

Mike, there is a difference between European HC-110 and US HC-110. But I dilute straight out of the bottle: 63 parts water and one part HC-110. The Covington site for HC-110 I think explains the European and American difference. I assume they use the European HC-110 in Israel.

I going to Turkey in a month or so. Unfortunately, I can't get to Israel this time, maybe next time. I would love to see you and Alexz.

1:45 at 4.75 min at 68. Agitation 5/30. For a condenser enlarger

Nothing wrong with short time if you drop loaded reels into developer.

I found this to be outstanding.
