I purchased this fine specimen of YE35 this weekend. It's an original Electro-35 Professional.

It's very clean, fit&finish are excellent.

However, it has a problem with the metering/shutter.

It's like it's half stuck on Bulb mode.

If you're on B, it works fine. If you're on Auto AND you aim it at bright light, the shutter is instantaneous. If you're in dim light, the shutter opens and releases with your finger, as if you're in Bulb mode.

In flash mode, it should have a 1/30th shutter (right?) but also behaves as if it's in Bulb mode.

Can any of you offer up advice? It's too nice to not get it working right.. The nicest built E35 I have to be exact.

Do the over/under lights work light they should? I don't have a solution, but it sounds like it could be the...pad of death. A search for "pad of death" or "POD" will net some help. But you might wait for a more expert opinion before breaking out the screwdrivers.

The over/under lights come on as expected.

I'm not sure what Pad of death symptoms are, but the shutter on this thing throws very nicely.

I'm thinking the issue lies either in the CDS cell circuit, or the ring selecter for bulb/auto/flash mode.

However, it's just a guess, and I don't know much about fixing the electrical parts on these.
