Try the new RFF Skin

Thanks! ..

If I was running a focus group on a user interface and timing how long it took someone to find a button that moves from left to right, depending on the screen settings, I would have my staff make a code change.

This kind of thing is almost a universal problem in web design. Remember this site runs mostly "off the shelf" so changes are often impossible.

Hex Cell Xpand and Hex Cell Grey Xpand both look very white to me, can't really tell a difference.

Nope, it's the default skin for me, for sure!

The Metropolitan in NYC has begun experimenting with dark galleries, not for photos, mostly for paintings. They hung the Robert Frank show on a dark earthy color. Not black, thank goodness.

Personally I just dislike dark backgrounds, especially for photographs, but a little variation is good I suppose. :)

Me too. It's a bit easier for me to read the white on black versus the other. Makes it a bit too bright.

Actually I did not even realize I had options until this thread started. I have been using the new skin for two days now and like it a lot. I intend to keep it as my regular skin.

Suggestion for the new skin: Let it have subtle shading for the "Sticky" threads in the listing, as the default skin does. Makes it easier to visually identify that group. Otherwise the new skin looks very nice and usable.

Nope. I like the black background. That is what is easy on my eyes, especially when I get up in the night and want to lurk on the forum. It's very soothing. But I am going to try the blue font for a bit. I think I like it!

Thanks for providing options!

I like the default background, especially for color photos, because its color neutral (24 for all three RGB channels).

Try the VBP Iskin and see what you think. It does not have all the menu options yet but curious what your thoughts are.

If we were in a critique,

1) I would still ask, what does that blue border do?

2) Some of the shading and lines are too fussy, but I could live with them.

3) Nice if the editing icons where in color, not monochrome blue, like the image icon, but with black borders. Blue should be the edit box.

I really appreciate the fact you're spending time taking care of the forum (not being sarcastic), I don't want to be entirely negative. But I have to say, I think it would be good to hire a designer. Just because we're photographers and have a certain sense of aesthetics or can mess around with some CSS files certainly doesn't make anyone a good designer.

- The skin is too contrasty, this is primarily a site where people read, you'd want something lower contrast to make reading comfortable.
- The type is too small and hurts legibility
- Not sure what the relevance of the color scheme, blue and orange ? Again, another high contrast choice that's a little aggressive to be honest.
- There's no clear visual hierarchy between the top menus, side menus and actual content.
- Some unnecessary visual elements (some edges are rounded others not, multiple color bars at the bottom, bright blue background on header image attracts undue attention, background stripes etc)

I kind of like the new skin, but I'm in the mood to stray from the default. Sure, a few color combinations I wouldn't choose -- blue text on orange buttons seems like its not good for many color-blind. In fact, that's my only real issue with this new skin; I don't mind the orange and blue borders, etc. I'll probably be back to default after a while, unless this grows on me. A truly captivating UI will keep me from wandering back to default. So with that...
