Trying to select 5 out of 149 photos

from the Palouse wheat fields take a year or two ago with a Leica M8, and Hexanon 28/2.8, and CV 21 lens.

If you feel up to it, could you let me know which 5 or so are your favorites?

I will probably have to crop to 8.5 x 11" or 8" x 10".

I will look closely at these. Most of them essentially were me pulled over on the side of the road and are handheld shots.

I agree about the light. There were some where the light was harsh, but the view, I noted to try to capture on the way back.

On a related note, some with blue skies, I was asked if I used a polarizer or other filter, but no filters were used.

I agree, that dusk and dawn could be ideal for this area. Thanks.

28, 93, 109, 113 for me. The rest look like snapshots from your car window. I think the fields would a nice area to shoot during the magic hour. The light in these is flat.

Nice photos. There are a lot of almost duplicates though. If you edit it down to say 50, it will be a lot easier to decide. I will say I skipped through the "main street" type photos in favour of the more minimal, open field shots.

I should be able to get to 50 or less, but it is hard for me. FWIW, I have # 103 printed and framed, but I cannot easily explain why I picked this one out of a dozen or two others to have printed from this batch.

But you're probably right, if 5 or so are from the same spot, and roughly same angle and exposure, I should possibly try to pick the best of the 5 and get rid of 4. Not sure why this is so hard for me.

Well I can't explain why I like these, but I do - #'s 16 or 17, 45 or 46, 58 or 59 or 60 or 61, 103, 106 or 107 or 108, 144, and 147.

I like 58 and 109 too. I'm not sure if I like 58 because it's a good photo though, it does have bits of clutter in it, but to me, it signifies the 'open road' and how I'd like to be driving on that road. I like 149 too. Don't think anyone else beside you has mentioned that one.

I actually find it rather easy to choose just 5 as there are many photos of the same subject. So here is my top 5:
- 52 (needs some cropping from the left)
- 108 + 109 - one panorama shot
- 60
- 17

and that is 5 already 😉

52, and 60 weren't already in my short list, I'll have another look at them.

Good idea on the pano, unfortunately, I hand held all of these shots. For those planning a Palouse photo trip (they seem to be popular these days), I'd definitely recommend an ultra wide or pano setup (xpan, tripod, stitching, etc.).

well I looked at all of the suggestions, and will probably take many more looks. I ended up printing these tonight on epson ultra premium lustre, cropping to 8.5 x 11.5 and framing:

17 - vertical road
22 - sky / wheat
51 - wheat hill
58 - horiz road w/ s curve, sky
108 - sky with 3 tone wheat
144 - airplane in distance

I like 108 the best, the wheat tone, and the dark brown tilled soil looks really nice printed on the epson r1400. I'd probably buy that one, if I didn't take it 😉
