TTL flash- can it be swapped?

Greetings!
Can I use my Nikon TTL flash on my TTL equiped Pentax LX camera, and visa versa? Or is the software somehow proprietary for each brand?

i think you'll find they have different pins on the foot. Some brands are compatible, but not in general.

Some flashes have interchangeable shoes to match the brand camera so "software" so to speak must be compatible. In reality it's all transistors I believe.

You can't use Pentax TTL flash exposure control with a Nikon flash but your Pentax LX and your Nikon flash are perfectly compatible when using the universal Automatic or (A) flash exposure mode.
